10 Oct 13: Response to attack on Christians in Pakistan
On Sunday (22nd September 2013) a pair of suicide bombers detonated their explosives outside an historic Anglican church in the city of Peshawar. The explosions occurred as the parishioners were leaving the 130 year old church after Sunday morning services. More than 78 people were killed and close to 150 others injured. Members of our Mission community protested immediately at this savage attack on the people of Peshawar. (more…)

19 Sep 13: Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God Church, Rocklea, celebrated its Feast Day
On the Sunday the 8th of September 2013 the Rocklea, Brisbane, Queensland parish of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God celebrated its feast day. This was the first time in memory that all the other Brisbane Russian Orthodox Churches closed on a Sunday to facilitate the brotherly concelebration of the clergy of all the Brisbane churches. There was a male choir made up of choiristers from each of the churches, Fr Michael gave a sermon around the gospel reading for the day and a feast was held afterwards in the church hall and many years were intoned for the rector Fr Michael Klebansky on his upcoming birthday and namesday. Праздник Успения Пресвятой Богородицы в православии – один из главных праздников, он принадлежит к числу двунадесятых и посвящён воспоминанию смерти (успения) Божией Матери. Согласно церковному преданию, в этот день апостолы, проповедовавшие в различных странах, чудесным образом собрались в Иерусалим, чтобы проститься и совершить погребение Девы Марии. Праздник Успения Пресвятой Богородицы отмечается Русской православной церковью 28-го августа, а последний день празднования, или отдание праздника – 5-го сентября. (more…)

“Успение… Никто из земнородных не прославлен, не возвышен, не превознесен так, как Матерь Христа Бога. Когда мы великих угодников Божиих молим о заступлении перед Богом, то просим, чтобы они “молили Бога о нас”, но к Ней мы обращаемся, как к всемогущей Царице: “Пресвятая Богородице спаси нас”. И Церковь, в нынешний великий и славный день Ее торжества говорит о ней так: “в молитвах неусыпающую Богородицу, и в предстательствах непреложное (неизменное) упование гроб и умерщвление не удержаста”. Слова “в молитвах неусыпающую Богородицу” – указывают на то, что Ее молитва творится беспрестанно – молитва о мире, молитва о нас, мы знаем, (more…)
27 Aug 13: Saint Panteleimon Church, Gosford, Feast Day
Friday 9 August was the day of commemoration of the heavenly protector of the Gosford parish, the Holy Great-Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. As in previous years, the services to observe this day were transferred to the closest Friday evening and Saturday morning – in 2013, the evening of the feast, Friday 9 August, and Saturday 10 August.
On Friday evening, the All-night Vigil with the blessing of five loaves and wheat, wine and oil was served by the parish rector, Priest James Carles. A large number of parishioners and friends were there, and many took the opportunity to confess in preparation to receive Holy Communion. (more…)
