On Monday evening, 8/21 November 2011, the Holy Kursk-Root Icon was brought to the Dormition Church in Wollongong by its rector, Priest Simeon Nekipelov, and Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky, the Icon’s guardian.

The clergy then served a Moleben and Akathist to the Mother of God.  Afterwards all present were invited to remain for a cup of tea with snacks.

Abbess Maria and three of the sisters from the Our Lady of Kazan Convent, Kentlyn, “New Shamordino”, also made the trip down to Wollongong and beautifully sang a canon to the Mother of God after the Akathist.Continue Reading

On Monday 8/21 November 2011, the Feast Day of Archangel Michael and the Bodiless Hosts, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Archpriest Boris Ignatievsky at the Holy Protection Church in Cabramatta together with the guardian of the Holy Icon, Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky.  The choir, under the expert direction of Andrei Laptev, beautifully accompanied the divine service.  Afterwards the Holy Icon was taken to the neighbouring Saint Sergius Home for the Aged to visit its residents.Continue Reading

On Sunday 20 November 2011 the Holy Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God was brought to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Cathedral in Strathfield by its guardian Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky for the All-Night Vigil service.

The Holy Icon was greeted on the steps of the Cathedral by the Cathedral clergy, Archpriest George Lapardin, Priest Simeon Nekipelov and Protodeacon Alexander Kotlaroff, and brought into the church to the singing of its troparion.

The All-Night Vigil commemorating the Archangel Michael and all the Bodiless Hosts was then celebrated in the presence of the Holy Icon.Continue Reading

The Feast Day of the Archangel Michael and the Bodiless Hosts falls on 8/21 November each year. However this year, according to local tradition, the parish of the Archangel Michael in Blacktown celebrated its annual Feast Day on Sunday 7/20 November 2011.  The parish was particularly blessed this year as the Holy Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God which was brought for the feast day by its guardian Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky.

The Divine Liturgy was served by Archpriest Nikita Chemodakov, the dean of New South Wales and rector of Saint Nicholas Church, Fairfield, along with Priest Alexander Filchakov of the Protection of the Holy Virgin Church, Blacktown (Moscow Patriarchate) and the rector of the parish, Priest Adrian Augustus, together with Protodeacon Basil Hadarin and Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky.Continue Reading

On Friday 18 November 2011 the Holy Kursk-Root Icon was brought to the Saint George Church in Carlton.

Abbot Kosmas led the celebration of the Supplicatory Canon (Moleben) to the Holy Theotokos and the Blessing of the Five Loaves. A short sermon followed along with the veneration of the Holy Icon and the distribution of the blessed loaves and a print of the icon. Afterwards an Akathist to the Kursk-Root Icon was served in English for those who wished to stay.Continue Reading

On Wednesday 16 November 2011 the Holy Kursk-Root Icon was brought to the Saint Vladimir Church in Centennial Park.
