Friends of Indonesia – Australia
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion

Friends of Indonesia-Australia was established in July 2010 to aid the priests and parishes of the Indonesian Orthodox Church (Gereja Orthodox Indonesia – GOI) who make up the Indonesian Deanery of  ROCOR’s Australian and New Zealand Diocese.

Mount Merapi Volcano Eruption Refugee Appeal

The active volcano Mount Merapi on the Indonesian island of Java erupted on the 25th of October. It continues to spew hot gases and ash as far as 5,000 meters into the atmosphere, wreaking havoc on surrounding villages and farms, and disrupting air travel. 194 people have been killed, and at least 350,000 fled their homes, and cannot yet return because of the danger of further eruptions.

On Monday the 22nd of June, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion departed from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport to begin an eight day visitation of the parishes in South Korea and Indonesia that are under the canonical protection of the Australian & New Zealand Diocese.

His first destination was Seoul, capital of South Korea where he was met by Deacon Father Paul Kang, who drove the Metropolitan to Holy Trinity Skete in the rural seaside village of Yonghwa.

On Tuesday the 23rd of June, His Eminence served the Divine Liturgy in the Skete’s Church of St Anna. The Head of the Korean Orthodox Mission, Father Justin Kang and his wife Matushka Helen, have both felt for a long time the call to the monastic life. Thus, during the Liturgy Father Justin Kang was tonsured to the small schema with the new name of John – Johan in Korean – in honour of St John of Kronstadt and will be based at Holy Trinity Skete. Matushka Helen Kang was tonsured into the small schema with the new name of Elizabeth in honour of the New Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia. Mother Elizabeth is attached to St Helen’s Chapel in the village of Chanjho.Continue Reading

В столице этой страны г. Джакарте владыка Иларион совершил Божественную литургию, во время которой рукоположил в священный сан двух православных индонезийцев. В течение своего пребывания в Индонезии Его Высокопреосвященство рукоположит еще четырех священников и диакона. Индонезийская миссия РПЦЗ успешно ведет проповедь Православия в этом регионе: уже более 2500 индонезийцев уверовали в Господа Иисуса Христа. Возглавляет миссию архимандрит Даниил (Бьянторо). Jakarta, Indonesia – Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral) of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand arrived in Indonesia today and served a liturgy in Jakarta were he ordained 2 Indonesians deacons to the Priesthood. During the course of his visit to Indonesia His Eminence will ordain 4 priests and 1 deacon. In the ROCOR mission of Indonesia there are already over 2500 Indonesian Orthodox parishioners. Отец Григорий – клирик Индонезийской православной миссии, которая находится под канонической протекцией Австралийско-Новозеландской епархии РПЦЗ. До принятия священного сана, он некоторое время учился в Белгородской духовной семинарии в России. Please pray for the soul of Father Gregory Momongan, a priest of the Indonesian Deanery of the Sydney , Australia and New Zealand Diocese, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Father Gregory reposed in the Lord Thursday, February 21, at 11:30 pm local time. Father Gregory was priest in charge of St Mary the Theotokos (Nativity of the Theotokos) Orthodox Church, Manado City in North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.

Father Gregory was hit by a truck on Wednesday February 20, a victim of a hit and run accident, while operating his motorcycle, which he used as a taxi in downtown Manado City . He had a mechanical problem with his motorcycle and pulled over to the side of the road where he was hit by a speeding truck that was attempting to overtake another vehicle. People who rushed to Father’s aid were able to contact his family from the information of a billing statement which they found in his pocket.Continue Reading
