25 Feb 23: His Grace Bishop George celebrates the Divine Services at the Holy Trinity Parish in Tasmania
On Saturday, 4th February 2023, His Grace Bishop George of Sydney Australia & New Zealand arrived at the Holy Trinity parish located at the Huon district in Tasmania which is approximately one hour drive from Hobart.
For many years the rector Fr George Morozoff conducted services in his home, on the outskirts of Hobart. It was when his father died 17 years ago, he came up with the idea to build a church on a 200-acre property belonging to his parents. Upon receiving a blessing from Metropolitan Hilarion, Fr George commenced building the church which took approximately 13 years. The church was named after the Holy Trinity as Fr George received the blessing to commence the building on the feast of the Holy Trinity.
The services are conducted every weekend and on major feast days in Church Slavonic and English. Vespers & Matins start at 5pm and the Divine Liturgy at 9.30am
That evening his Grace Bishop George served the Great Blessing of the Waters and blessed the newly built church with the holy water, then the All Night Vigil commenced. Concelebrating with his Grace were Archpriest Boris Ignatevsky (rector of Holy Protection Church, Cabramatta, NSW), Priest George Morozoff (parish rector), Protodeacons Alexander Kotlaroff, (cleric of Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral Strathfield, NSW) and Alexander Abramov (cleric of Holy Protection Cathedral Melbourne, VIC). The service was accompanied by the wonderful Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia lead by Nektary Kotlaroff.
The next morning at 9:30am, His Grace Bishop George was greeted by the clergy and the Divine Liturgy commenced. Joining the clergy was also Priest David Gould, (rector of the Holy Cross Church in Hobart, TAS). This wonderful occasion brough the faithful to this parish not only from the surrounding places of Hobart but also from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Bishop George congratulated the rector and all those who helped with the construction of the church. A special gratitude was earned by the builder volunteer Alexander Dobrovolsky, who invested a lot of work in the construction of the temple and many years was intoned.
After liturgy, Fr George invited the faithful to a festive meal which was prepared by the sisterhood. During the meal Fr. George thanked His Grace, the clergy, the choir for coming and embellishing the service. At the request of the parishioners, the Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia performed a few Russian folk songs.
