: Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia participated in the Moscow Multicultural Music Festival

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian Orthodox Male Choir of Australia went virtual with choristers recording their parts from home, the conductor Nektary Kotlaroff and chorister Adrian Metlenko merging the audio and visual of each clip together to produce the final recording, and finally releasing on ROMCA’s social media channels. The videos produced sparked interest from musicians all around the world, in particular conductors and composers from Russia.

During the month of May, ROMCA was made aware that a well-known music festival in Russia – the ‘Moscow Multicultural Music Festival’ was taking place virtually due to the global pandemic. ROMCA submitted the virtual choir recordings of ‘Kyrie Eleison’ and ‘Those were the days my friend’ and was placed in the ‘A category’. In June, the results were announced that out of hundreds of submissions, ROMCA’s recording of ‘Those were the days my friend’ won the ‘A category’ and ‘Kyrie Eleison’ was awarded the ‘Grand Prix’ – being selected by the jury panel as the best overall submission in the competition.
